After intense training and preparations over the past days, athletes competing in the FIS Para Alpine World Ski Championships on Mariborsko Pohorje are now gearing up for their first races, scheduled for this weekend. Due to weather conditions, the schedule has been slightly adjusted, but the atmosphere among the competitors remains excellent, and the slopes are now in optimal condition for the start of the competition.
Today’s »Day Off« is dedicated to physical and mental preparation, recovery, and course analysis. Some athletes will use the day for individual training, while others will focus on relaxation and gathering strength for the upcoming races. The atmosphere at Pohorje has been electric since the arrival of teams from 33 different countries, all eager to compete in this prestigious event. The experienced and dedicated organizing team, including Marprom and Šport Maribor from the JHMB Group, is fully prepared for an unforgettable sporting weekend.
Srečko Vilar, General Secretary of the FIS Para Alpine World Ski Championships Maribor 2025, stated: »Despite the initial weather challenges, we are pleased that the slopes are now in excellent condition and that we are ready for the races. The athletes are eager to showcase their skills, determination, and passion on the snow. We were especially honored to have the FIS Secretary General, Michel Vion, welcome the competitors at the opening ceremony last Wednesday. Para alpine skiing is not just a sport – it is a testament to incredible perseverance, strength, and dedication. Maribor, with its rich skiing tradition, is the perfect venue for such an event. We are confident that the coming days will bring intense battles and inspiring performances from the world’s best para alpine skiers. I invite all skiing and sports enthusiasts to join us and create an unforgettable atmosphere with their support – our athletes truly deserve it.«
