At the World Para Alpine Skiing Championship, which is being hosted for the first time in history at Maribor Pohorje, we witnessed the men’s slalom today. In this dynamic and exciting discipline, a total of 68 athletes competed across three categories, showcasing exceptional technical skills and determination on a perfectly prepared course. In the end, the highest positions were claimed by skiers from Italy, France, and Norway.
In the Vision Impaired category, the same athletes stood on the podium as in yesterday’s giant slalom. Leading after the first run, Italy’s Giacomo Bertagnolli held onto his position, narrowly beating silver medalist Kalle Ericsson of Canada by just 25 hundredths of a second. The bronze medal was once again claimed by Poland’s Michal Golas.
In the Standing category, France’s Arthur Bauchet claimed his second world championship title of this event, defeating his closest rival by exactly 5 seconds with two excellent runs. Switzerland’s Robin Cuche, the nephew of former alpine skiing champion Didier Cuche, secured the silver medal. French athlete Jules Segers added another bronze to his collection, finishing 5.81 seconds behind Bauchet.
In the Sitting category, Norway’s Jesper Pedersen claimed the world champion title after an outstanding second run, avenging his result from yesterday. France’s Rene De Silvestro took the silver, while the bronze medal was claimed by Dutch skier Niels De Langen, who beat his compatriot Kampschreur by a mere 6 hundredths of a second.
The World Championship will conclude tomorrow with the women’s slalom events. The first run will begin at 10:00 AM, with the second run at 1:00 PM.
