Preparations for the upcoming FIS Para Alpine World Ski Championships Maribor 2025 are in full swing at Mariborsko Pohorje and in Maribor. Despite high daytime temperatures in recent days, final on-site inspections have confirmed that the organizers have managed to preserve enough snow in the higher-altitude sections of the course to hold competitions in all alpine skiing disciplines.
The World Championship, organized primarily by Marprom and Šport Maribor from the JHMB Group, will take place from February 2 to 11 and is not currently at risk. »Additionally, weather forecasts for next week, predicting sub-zero temperatures, bring further optimism, as they indicate that snowmaking down to the valley will once again be possible. This will be highly beneficial in improving the snow conditions. We will adjust the program as needed based on the weather and course conditions, with the goal of delivering competitions at the highest possible level,« explained Marko Rataj, head of the ski resort at Marprom and competition director.
Meanwhile, the first participants of the FIS Para Alpine World Ski Championships have already arrived in Maribor, which in the coming days will be immersed in the spirit of this prestigious sporting event. A total of 33 countries will take part, bringing more than 300 participants to Maribor, including 135 athletes, with the rest being accompanying staff. The official opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, February 5, at 19:30 at the Snow Stadium. All competitions will then be held between February 6 and 11.
The event also holds significant promotional and tourism potential for the city. »The honor of hosting the Para Alpine World Ski Championships for the first time in history not only reinforces Maribor’s reputation as a sports city but also as a tourist destination developing inclusive tourism. At the Maribor Tourism Board, we are proud to collaborate with local partners and the Municipality of Maribor to create an environment that is welcoming and accessible to visitors with mobility impairments,« emphasized Jure Struc, director of the Maribor Tourism Board.
We warmly invite all athletes and visitors to experience the unique atmosphere of Maribor – not only through the competitions but also by exploring the beauty of Pohorje and the rich cultural pulse of our city.
