The first competition day of the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships is behind us, featuring the women’s giant slalom. The athletes competed in excellent conditions across three categories: visually impaired, standing, and sitting.
In the visually impaired category, eight skiers competed, with Austria’s Veronika Aigner claiming the world champion title. She dominated both runs and deservedly won the gold medal. Italy’s Chiara Mazzel secured second place, while another Austrian, Elina Stary, took home the bronze.
The standing category had the largest number of participants. Sweden’s Ebba Aarsjoe delivered an outstanding second run, extending her lead and taking the gold medal. Silver went to China’s Mengqiu Zhang, while an excellent second run propelled the USA’s Audrey Crowley to third place.
In the sitting category, eleven competitors took to the slopes. Japan’s Momoka Muraoka delivered a superb performance, earning the world champion title. Germany’s Anna-Lena Forster claimed the silver medal after an excellent second run, while China’s Sitong Liu secured bronze, edging out a Spanish competitor by just 0.14 seconds.
The World Championships continue tomorrow with the men’s giant slalom. All races are free to watch, as access to the venue is open to everyone.
To make it easier for spectators to reach the finish area at Trikotna Jasa, a free chairlift ride on Radvanje will be available during the races on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The events can also be followed on an LCD screen in the finish arena of the Snow Stadium. For those unable to attend in person, live broadcasts will be available on BK TV and the official championship website.
